Anjori Alagh. The name quite doesn’t say it all like Bond, but this young actor’s attitude and determination sure do. Despite her debut film, Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi, directed by Vikram Bhatt sinking at the box office, she’s very optimistic about her film career in glitterville.

“The worst has happened. There is no downside left. Now the only way to go is up,” she says. Depression is the last thing on her mind, unlike her cat Storm who’s suffering from stress and anxiety issues, really.
“Storm is in a kind of rebellion mode where in he pees on the couch so he’s not allowed out for most part of the day. We spoke to a therapist in France and learned that he’s suffering from stress and anxiety and is on Prozac now,” she explains. Whoever said it was a dog’s life hadn’t obviously met Storm.
So did she get into the biz just ‘cos she’s a beautiful girl or was it a creative pursuit? “Oh, I wasn’t pretty! I was fat and hideous looking and I was aspiring to look better. I became an actor because I love the camera,” she exclaims.
Given she wanted to be marketing guru like her dad, former biscuit czar and now entrepreneur Sunil Alagh, her mother, actress Maya’s genes kicked in and tilted the career scales. “I did commercials till I was about 15 and then went on to study and did a theatre course Stanford for a summer, alongside my business management course.

And that’s when I realised that I enjoyed myself more than the business management course. And that made me think twice,” she says, cradling Masti, her other well-behaved cat in her arms.
Is she using her marketing skills to strategise her film career? “It’s very different. It’s just not the same. I am not a cola can you know,” laughs the girl who’s ‘Oh my God moment’ was doing an ad with Abhishek Bachchan recently.
“I loved working with Abhishek. I want to share screen space with him in a film but the ad was a start for me. I’ve been one of his biggest fans from his Refugee days when nobody else thought he was hot. But I loved the fact that he was hot, but he didn’t know it,” she gushes.
Anjori is happy to have an advisory board at home with her parents and brother-in-law, Sameer Nair, television’s creative genius, sounding off her moves. “Dad is a support system whilst mom’s given me a lot of insight into the workings of the business, but all my work advise comes from Sameer,” she says.
So when will she hit big time so to speak? “I don’t know, but I will not let my career end without working with Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan! I am going to hang in there,” she says. That’s where she’s alagh, nee different!
